The Texas Public Policy Foundation publised a report on “Math and Science Best Practices in Texas Public High Schools” (November 2007) which evaluated 51 candidate schools based on the following criteria:
Remember when Rocky reported in October 2007 that the LTHS was rated by Newsweek magazine as one of the top rated high schools in the nation, speaking as if it were a recent event (true only in 2003 and 2005). The LTHS did NOT make the cut in the latest US News and World Report (December 10, 2007 issue, Volume 142, Number 20) rankings of the nations best high schools.
Again, it does not look very good for the LTISD. Imagine that!
The Texas Zero Tolerance web site lists the LTISD as on its Reported Cases of Disciplinary Policy Abuse in Individual Texas Independent School Districts web page.
I am skeptical of the LTISD’s data showing the dollar amount spent per pupil in our district and the comparison to several other districts in the area. They point out that the data is sourced from the TEA but they do not point out the specific report or web page. (more…)
Well, it certainly is not flattering at all. It gives us some more insight into district and just what they are doing.
Hey, the LTISD paid for the review and the report which was completed in April 2007 but they were not so anxious to share this with us, the parents and tax payers of the district.
Just what is a “cohort district?”
Just what is a “lighthouse district?”
After attending the September 6, 2007 Board Workshop I heard these terms being used ad nauseam.
Here is a copy of the “Celebrations! 2006/2007 Adequate Yearly Progress, State Accountability, and Plans for 2007/2008“TPIA presented by Myra Pettit on August 13, 2007.
It was much along the lines of the LTISD press release which tried to spin the positive over the reality of their failure for the second year in a row, the third “academically acceptable” rating in the past 11 years.
Funny, but the August 3, 2007 Quick News and LTISD home page web link to this “press release” result in a page which says: “The requested article is no longer published.” So soon? Why? I don’t think it was because Rocky said anything embarrassing (more about this later), but just the usual technical incompetence of the LTISD. I will help them out. I found their web link to this “press release”.
The 2007 Accountability Ratings have just been released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
The LTISD was given a 2007 Accountability Rating of only “Academically Acceptable.” Did you also know that this is the LOWEST acceptable rating available from the TEA? This is the second year in a row as “Academically Acceptable.” I can’t wait to hear the district spin the “Rocky facts” as to why it happened again.
