Chris Wilson wrote anther letter to the editor in our local paper, the “Lake Travis View.”

This letter was not published on the paper’s web site, but it is another example of the district’s “fine achievements.” All part of Rocky’s master plan to make the LTISD the “most exemplary school district in Texas!”

“To the editor:
In case you missed this I wanted the Lake Travis ISD community to be aware that on June 23, the Austin American-Statesman ran a very informative article by Laura Heinauer “Graduations up in 10-year span in most districts.”

In the article we found out that Lake Travis ISD did not fare too well with a 78.4 percent graduation rate and that unfortunately it is in a group of 5 out of 20 profiles that show a downward trend in graduation for the period of 1996-2006. Lake Travis has a 0.3 percent decline in graduation rates for the profiled time period.

The peer ISD’s for Lake Travis in regards to graduation rates are San Marcos, Bastrop, Pflugerville, Lockhart and Round Rock. The ISD’s above Lake Travis with a graduation rate of 80-89% are Liberty Hill, Leander, Georgetown , Wimberley, Hutto, and Hays ISD. The ISD’s above Lake Travis with a graduation rate of 90-100 percent are Eanes and Lago Vista. The ISD’s below Lake Travis with a graduation rate of 0-69 percent are Austin, Marble Falls, Elgin, Dripping Springs, Taylor and Manor. I called Westwood High School and their graduation rate for this year is in the 90th percentile. I do not have specific information for them for the 1996-2006 time frame.

Eanes has an alternate high school at Westlake High School, Round Rock ISD has an alternate high school. Lake Travis and Lago Vista ISD’s do not have an alternate high school campus.

In my opinion, Lake Travis ISD needs to work harder and smarter to achieve the same high level of graduation rate excellence that Eanes/Westlake, Lago Vista and Round Rock/Westwood are able to achieve.
