Yes, according to documents recently obtained from the LTISD,TPIA as of 6/15/2009 our “ethically challenged” LTISD Board member, Mayo Davidson, has not paid the LTISD $41,918.45 in property taxes.

Since the LTISD messed up printing out the delinquent tax report (no big surprise), I have “re-aligned” Mayo’s tax data from the LTISD into a “readable” format:

Year Base Tax Penalties
& Interest

2008 $1,917.50 $63.92 $1,981.42
Total: $18,246.97 $23,671.48 $41,918.45

Did you know that as of 3/24/2008, records obtained from the Travis County Appraisal District (TCAD) and the LTISD show that Mayo has not paid Travis  County $63,224.50 in unpaid taxes? This amount includes $35,120.84 shown unpaid to the LTISDTPIA.

Didn’t  Mayo write on his 2008 re-election web site:

“Bottom Line: I have never had, nor do I have now, any personal obligation or liability for the deferred taxes on this Home.  The transfer to me was done in 2007.  I personally paid the 2007 taxes, although I had no legal obligation to do so, and I will be personally obligated for all taxes for 2008 and future years.”

-Mayo Davidson, “Responses to Comments and Questions,” www.mayodavidson.com (no longer on line)

Why does the school district still list Mayo as being obligated to pay these taxes?

Why did Mayo only pay 2007 property taxes?

Why would Mayo pay taxes in 2007 when he was not legally obligated to pay?

We should ask Mayo just who is obligated to pay the taxes on this property? Note that Mayo only addresses his obligations for 2008 and forward.

We all know that Mayo hates taxes, just listen to the words right out of his own mouth.

If there was still some tax  issues yet to be resolved in 2008, why didn’t the corrections get made by the time of my TPIA request? (Documents responsive to my TPIA request were dated 6/15/2009.) I would think that Mayo would not want a “tax lien” showing up on his credit report and he would make doubly sure to get the information corrected as soon as possible. Mayo’s current tax deferral affidavit (homestead and over 65 deferral) was filed with the Travis Central Appraisal District in April 2008.

Perhaps Mayo would be willing to tell us more about who sold the property in 1982 (TCAD Volume: 09656, Page: 0009, Date: 8/18/1982) and just how the property was sold to him in 2007 (TCAD Doc Number: 2007230312TR, Recorded: 12/27/2007)? Wasn’t Mayo the trustee of the trust that sold the property to himself in 2007? Could there be an ethical conflict here?
