Remember when Rocky reported in October 2007 that the LTHS was rated by Newsweek magazine as one of the top rated high schools in the nation, speaking as if it were a recent event (true only in 2003 and 2005). The LTHS did NOT make the cut in the latest US News and World Report (December 10, 2007 issue, Volume 142, Number 20) rankings of the nations best high schools.

Here are some facts from the article which can also be accessed on-line:

The data was compiled in collaboration with schoolmatters.com.

An extensive document details the methodology used to determine that the best high schools. Certainly the best I have seen regarding the matter.

Oh no, scientifically based metrics! Just what the LTISD says that they are striving to use, or so they say.

According to the article (Page 55), Texas has 1,815 high schools and 634 were eligible for ranking. Of the 634 eligible schools, 162 were awarded the “Bronze” or better rating and of these 162 Texas high schools, 29 were recognized as “Silver” or “Gold.”

This means that the LTISD did not make the top 162 of 1,815 schools (10%)!

US News and World Reports includes a “side line” story of the Hidalgo High School. The article: “Reaching for the Dream, On the border of Texas and Mexico, an exceptional school” tells of an “exceptional” high school despite their situation.

Rocky and the rest of the “Team of Eight:” if Hidalgo can do it, why can’t you? You certainly have the resources at your disposal and yet you spend an inordinate amount of time seeking metrics which will bolster your own narcissistic view.

How does Rocky and the rest of the “Team of Eight” reconcile their rendition or as I like to say the “Rocky Facts” regarding against reports such as those from US News and World Reports?

Rocky, you had better wind up Marco and send him out to spin some more “Rocky Facts” about how well things are going and your overwhelming support. I wonder if the captain of the Titanic told similar “facts” as his ship was sinking too?
