The interesting documents show the changes from the prior contract. It shows the prior contract amount to have been $188,000 now it is $213,000! What happened to the $201,000 quoted in the Lake Travis View?TPIA Was that number “not true in reality?” (stay tuned to upcoming news and documents concerning “not true in reality”) We already know that the LTISD Board of Trustees lied to the readers of the Lake Travis View in an earlier full page advertisement, so …
Since the data available from TEA is somewhat dated (2005-2006 being the latest available), I will summarize how Rocky’s new numbers shape up compared to the most current available data:
Number of students in the district: 5,700 (Source: LTISD, they actually state “more than 5,700 students”, we will use 5,700 for this exercise. Note that LTISD “District Profile” created on 11/21/2006 used outdated data.)
Average teacher experience: 12.5 years (Source: LTISD “District Profile”, “The average experience for a LTISD teacher is 12.45 years with an average of five years with the district.” We can round to 12.5 years and assume this number to remain relatively constant since it is an average and not subject to tremendous yearly fluctuations.)
Using the 2006-2007 Teacher Salary Scale the following comparisons of Rocky’s new salary to that of a “average experienced” LTISD teacher is:
|
Experience (Years) |
Bachelor’s Degree | % of Rocky’s Salary |
|---|---|---|
| 12 | $44,500 | 20.9% |
| 13 | $45,125 | 21.2% |
|
Experience (Years) |
Master’s Degree | % of Rocky’s Salary |
|---|---|---|
| 12 | $45,636 | 21.4% |
| 13 | $46,261 | 21.7% |
(Note that $213,000 amounts to $37.37 per student, based on 5,700 students.)
Using the 2005-2006 LTISD enrollment number of 5,307 and the 2006-2007 enrollment number of 5,700, the district only grew by 393 students, or 7.41%, yet Rocky’s salary increased by almost twice that number (1.79 to be exact) in only five months!
